How School for Advanced Studies Became One of Arkansas’s Top Schools

When families walk through our doors for the first time, they often say the same thing:

“This feels different.”

Housed inside the historic Lane Hotel in downtown Rogers, our classrooms are alive with conversation. Students speak with confidence and curiosity. Teachers know students not only by name, but by their interests, their strengths, and their far-reaching ambitions.

Now in our second academic year, School for Advanced Studies Northwest Arkansas has quickly become one of the highest-performing middle and high schools in the state. That didn’t happen by accident. It happened because families, students, and teachers share a core belief: young people rise when expectations are high and learning is meaningful.

That belief has translated into real outcomes, too. On the 2025 Arkansas Teaching, Learning, and Assessment System (ATLAS) exams, students outperformed state averages across English, math, and science, often by a wide margin, with many students achieving advanced levels of mastery.

A School That Lives Up to What Parents Want

Step into one of our classrooms and you won’t find students sitting silently, passively taking notes. Instead, you’ll hear thoughtful discussion. Students lean into conversation, wrestle with ideas, question assumptions, and learn how to express themselves clearly and respectfully. They engage with meaningful works from across cultures and time periods to better understand the world and their place in it.

Over time, this kind of learning leaves a mark. Parents tell us they notice it at the dinner table and on the drive home from school. Their children can explain what they’re learning and, just as importantly, why it matters. Confidence grows. Curiosity deepens. Learning becomes something students own.

Why The Advanced Studies Model Works

At School for Advanced Studies, our teachers are scholars and experts who are passionate about their subjects and love guiding young minds. They mentor students through advisory groups, after-school office hours, and countless everyday conversations. Those relationships matter, especially during the pivotal middle and high school years, when students are shaping both their academic identities and their sense of self.

Our curriculum is intentionally designed to foster a deep appreciation for knowledge across all disciplines. Through discussion-based seminars and collaborative projects, students are challenged to think critically, engage deeply, and connect ideas across subjects.

As students enter high school, they begin shaping their own academic journey by choosing a concentration in Fine Arts, Humanities, or Math & Science. These focused pathways allow for in-depth exploration through specialized coursework and projects, empowering students to pursue their passions while preparing for the demands of college and beyond.
