Welcome John McGowan!
Mr. John McGowan has a passion for making History engaging and thought provoking for students.
John hails from Fayetteville and is a graduate of the University of Tulsa. He also earned a Masters in the Art of Teaching at the University of Central Arkansas. With his love of teaching history, John grew to be the head of the social studies department at Greenland High School
McGowan is not only a history buff, but an accomplished artist in oils and charcoal. He is a resident artist at Mount Sequoyah and hopes to teach painting at the School for Advanced Studies in the future.
His third passion is weightlifting! Over the last decade he has achieved notable success placing third in the country at 2024 Masters National Championship. He is currently training to qualify for the Masters World representing the US in 2025.
John and his family are avid Chicago Cubs fans and traveling to new places, outdoor adventures and Legos.
